Tasmanian wildlife parks want to unite for captive programs

Seven of the nine wildlife parks in Tasmania have met and come to a consensus that they would like to play a part in the battle to save the Tasmanian devil from devil facial tumour disease.

To this point they have worked independently with the devil but are seeking recognition of their husbandry skills and an opportunity to save taxpayers' money by fostering breeding programs in Tasmania.

According to the article, each devil sent to the mainland costs A$20,000.

As part of their proposal they will be meeting with State Government representatives in the search for funding to assist with developing a coordinated umbrella organisation.
