Satellite tracked devils to be released into wild

Scientists in Tasmania are releasing orphaned devils back into the wild on the Tasman Peninsula. The study group consists of 13 devils split into three groups: five will act as a control and remain in captivity; four will be eased into the wild over a period of a few weeks; and four will be released immediately.

The composition of each group is based on behavioural research which aims for each group to include a variety of different personality types such as being bold or shy.

The devils will have tracking collars affixed which are designed to fall off the animal after 83 days. The collars will signal an overhead satellite every two hours so that researchers can track the devils' movements.
