Devil funding won't start until entire wild population is infected

In this report from the Sydney Morning Herald, Primary Industries Minister David Llewellyn is quoted as saying "I have asked my department to look at new, longer term funding options to commence next financial year" [starting July 2008].

The report also notes that each captive devil costs about $10,000 per year to maintain.

(Currently there are nearly 50 captive devils in mainland breeding programs which, by this estimate, are calculated to cost $500,000 per year.)
