New devil breeding sanctuary planned
Ray Green of the "Devils in Danger Foundation" has demonstrated a new devil breeding technique in which the devils do not fight or injure each other. Further, for 3 years running, each devil pair has successfully produced 4 pouch young which have all been raised to adulthood - a world first.
The Foundation has applied to build a new breeding sanctuary at Collinsvale, at the base of Mount Wellington, just 20 minutes from Hobart. The local council is due to consider the application on Monday 17 September 2007, but local residents are opposed to the development.
Even if the application fails, a second site in the same locality might be available, or Mr Green may build the sanctuary opposite his wildlife park in the Derwent Valley, 60 minutes from Hobart.
